HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State officials say Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul will compete for votes from Connecticut Republicans in the state's presidential preference primary on April 24.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola announced the names of the chosen candidates at a news conference on Friday. Following the announcement, Labriola urged the candidates to campaign in the state and meet with voters.
President Barack Obama was also selected to qualify for the ballot; however, a Democratic primary will not occur in the state unless other party candidates petition to qualify for the ballot. Petitions to qualify as candidates must be filed by March 2.
New and unaffiliated voters have until April 23 to register as Republicans for the primary.

Go Obama. Easy re-election this time. I bet the house loses 70+ republican seats. The funny thing is it will be the republicans electing him

Karen, yea right you are a Republican!! Give me a Break! I'm an Independent but I can certainly see that Obama is one of the most far left elected officials this country has ever had. While I don't vote on social issues, he even voted against a ban on partial birth abortion. I know Obama has an excellent chance of winning because of all of the give aways. Those give aways will destroy this country because like Margaret Thatcher said eventually you run out of other peoples money. Its funny all of the pro- Obama posters could not post any good things he has done. Unfortunately, most people don't understand how bad the policies of printing money and the out of control spending, are for the country.

I can't wait for the election in November, I'm a republican but I'm voting for Obama this time. Romney is nothing but a flip flopping buffoon who thinks he can say anything to win a vote, and then say the opposite 5 minutes later to get another vote. Gingrich is a cheater who will probably be married to someone else in 4 years. Who can vote for a nutbag like Ron Paul who wants to take the country back. back to the time of the American Revolution or Rick Santorum who wants to have no one have the right to use birth control?. Republican have for years been against women and the right to choose what they do with their own bodies.

Hahah.... Obama has an excellent chance of winning again not because the candidates are terrible but because he has basically paid off all of the voters! The unions, the welfare recipicients, those on unemployment, now the underwater mortgage holders, all the people who pay no federal income tax, etc. If we do have another 4 years of Obama we will be in huge trouble...Greece comes to mind.

LMAO, good one Dad. Totally true also.. I'm ashamed of the GOP field, Obama SHOULD be so easy for the taking, but with this clueless group, NO ONE is going to beat him. Not being Obama isn't enough to win this year, and if the economy does get better, do they REALLY think that dissing contraceptives are going to lead the GOP to a win?

I am confident that anyone of those candidates can do a better job than Obama? What has he done to help the economy? With the exception of getting Bin Laden and the other one, what good has he done?

I don't know why the sheep in CT continue to vote in these Democrats who have ruined this state. I was shocked when Malloy won, almost every other state in the country went in another direction except for CT. The foolish people like to blame the Republican governors without acknowleding that a CT governor is practically powerless when the legislature is controlled by the opposite party. Twenty- five years ago we had no income tax and no casinos...where the hell did all the money go???

Look at the group, then TRY at act surprised when Obama wins by 10 points, and the house republicans lose 50+ seats. The republicans are running members of a clown college

Good luck gentlemen, CT has far surpassed the rest of the country to claim the mantle of "Most Liberal State in the US" . We voted in a supermajority of liberal democrats in our House and Senate, then topped that by voting in a Liberal Governor. We are so willing to be controlled we couldn't even vote to have initiative and referendum (which is something both runner-ups California and Massachusetts have). We are #1 in many areas now, like "Most expensive place in the country for Retirees to live, #1 in gas taxes, #1 in largest tax increase this year, etc. etc. Save your money guys and invest it in states that realize what's happening with the country.

Begin....it has been going on for over 3 years now. Cutting 500 billion from Medicare when Medicare is going broke, cutting the contribution rate on social security taxes when social security is going broke, bringing welfare back to pre-Clinton levels, no stipulations on bailouts of bank and auto industry, failed stimulus, spending more than all other adminstrations combined with barely any results, Frank/ Dodd bill, failure to reign in Frannie and Freddie, Ben Bernacki, Quantitative easing and the list can go on and on and on!
