Panel rebukes mayor on 'tacos' remark

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut human-rights commission has rebuked a mayor who made a disparaging remark about Latinos.

The state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities said Tuesday it unanimously approved a resolution condemning East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Maturo Jr. for saying last month he might have tacos as a way to do something for the community.

The Republican mayor made the remark in response to a reporter's question after the arrests of four police officers on charges they harassed Latino residents and businesses. He received criticism from all quarters, including Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

The commission voted Feb. 8 to approve a resolution saying Maturo demonstrated a lack of sensitivity to the Latino community.

The Republican mayor has apologized. His spokesman Frank Gentilesco says the taco comment is old news.

The four officers have pleaded not guilty.

The problem is most Americans don't give a sh*t. They only care about their own little lives and they like all the Obama give-aways. We should all know that if liberal senator Reid doesn't even want to take it for a vote than it really is detrimental to the country or should I say their re-election. They can pass it without Republicans...so, what is the problem, Eric???? Take Greece, Europe will give them more money if they cut spending by a certain level but the people are rioting because they still want their freebies. If they don't get the money the country will become a third world country. The party is over folks and they still don't get it!!!! Sickening and America is on its way!

Obama's new budget, which his own subordinate Harry Reid will not bring to a vote, will bring the deficit to over 20 trillion in ten years - well beyond our GDP. This is inconvevable - over 20 thousand BILLION Doallars $20,000,000,000,000! If the Democrat voters think this isn't going to be a HUGE problem for our kids they are deluding themselves. If they do understand - then there is something gravely wrong with their ideals.

Eric, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama wins, not at all. Too many people in this country are feeding off of the government teet. Heck, you are probably one of them and you don't want your gravy train to end. We have 47% of people in this country paying zero in federal income tax and 1 in 5 collecting some form of government assistance. Eventually, the 14 trillion debt and the printing money WILL bite us in the behind...just hope we can recover. If Obama does get re-elected this country is so screwed!!! Read a book...don't just blindly vote for someone because he/she is a Democrat!
Eric
And yet with all of this whining, the democrats will walk to a victory this year. and take back a LOT of seats in congress.....Honestly, who cares about Maturo, he's a little mayor of small town that basically a sewer in CT. Is anyone REALLY surprised about him?

Watch the Democrats give an Obamacare "waiver" to allow Tacos and Chimichangas in little kids lunch boxes as long as it gets them the spanish vote - otherwise, like the 4yr old in NC this week who had her lunch searched by the "new" Obama admin directed public school food police to make sure it meets the new Obama guidelines - they took away the kid's turkey sandwich and forced chicken nuggets on her. It's disturbing - people wise up Democrats will be controlling our kids future if we let stupid stuff like this work for the Democrats. Disturbing!

Northlander, so true, the Demcrats get a free pass on whatever they do or say. I'm sure her remark will never see the " bright" light of day. They are attacking Maturo for his foolish remark while other elected officials, Charlie Rangel and Tim Geither, come to mind, committ tax fraud and continue their jobs without an outcry from the public. That all being said, the people in this country need to get serious about the US debt crisis and get their heads out of their azzs worrying about political correctness.

Its pretty obvious Maturo won't be re-elected. I don't expect him to go anywhere. All he is doing is building up his pension. This will die down in the next few weeks, but it will rear its ugly head near election time. I support what the officers did, when you are a cop, you have the right to hassle anyone you want regardless of their ethnicity. If they want to pull you over on the street, they can make up some reason for doing it, and if they want to hassle you on your property, they can do that too.

Per “The Hill” President Obama’s Campaign manager Messina just tweeted "Line of the day from WAPO's Dana Milbank: 'The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos,' " I bet the some of the same people who condemn the Taco remark will say this is ok as it's from a Democrat.

Not enough tough talk in my opinion - we have enough politicians who only say what will get them votes - and not what is needed to save this State from democrat ruin.
