Political signs vandalized in No. Haven

Police in North Haven are on the lookout for the people responsible for damaging the signs of political candidates.

Even in a tough political year like this there are rules about what you can and can't do no matter how much you dislike a certain person running for office. And one of those rules is that you cannot deface, or vandalize, or tear down anyone's campaign signs. But that's what happened in North Haven.

"Some of the signs were just defaced or the wood was broken,” said Republican State Representative candidate Dave Yaccarino. “The 2x3s were just smashed. Fortunately, no one was hurt and they're all put back together and they're back up."

But after this weekend's damage, Yaccarino and his supporters did have to spend some time putting those signs back up, and you can still see where someone tried to scratch his face off.

Several of his signs were damaged and so were a half dozen campaign signs for fellow Republican Judge Michael Brandt. The Republicans contacted the police, but they say it's a familiar complaint. This type of vandalism happens every election season.

"I'm not blaming anybody at all. It's just something that happened,” continued Republican candidate Yaccarino. “These things happen and fortunately nobody was hurt. The campaign goes on and it's part of life."

North Haven Police say anybody damaging or tearing down a campaign sign is committing vandalism, which is a crime. Officers will be looking out for it.

I think this is great. Democrats fought to make sure our tax dollars paid for all this campaign garbage to the tune of $31,000 for every state Rep. candidate, and now Democrats are smashing the things our tax dollars purchased. I say if you deface a campaign sign you should be charged with destruction of public property since we all paid for the signs with tax dollars.

If the Democrats have a message that makes sense and a good record of legislation that the folks can support, they would not need to denigrate the Repubs and tear down their signs.

Personally, I have always thought it was an eye sore...... I am sick of seeing em........they should only be put at the polling places..........

Any chance he did this himself? He's getting news mileage and free publicity for it. Signs get damaged and stolen all the time. Seems like he's bit wimpy
