Ohio redistricting group says Tuesday ruled by map

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Backers of a defeated ballot proposal to revise Ohio's redistricting process say the state's political map, not the voters, determined Tuesday's congressional and legislative races.

An analysis released Wednesday by Voters First showed all 16 Ohio congressional districts went to the party favored by new district lines drawn last year. The same was true for 97 of 99 Ohio House districts.

Campaign chairwoman Catherine Turcer said though Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney each won about half the state, the results of congressional and legislative races skewed heavily toward the map-drawing Republican party.

Voters First, a coalition that included the League of Women Voters, says its failed campaign highlighted bipartisan interest in fixing the current system, and that should start right away.
