NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy will be meeting with Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to discuss his new job as the state's junior senator.
Murphy said Thursday he is scheduled to participate in Senate orientation sessions next week. He also has one-on-one meetings planned with Lieberman and Reid, who called Tuesday night to congratulate Murphy on his victory over Republican Linda McMahon.
Murphy said he plans to seek advice about issues such as committee assignments from Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats and is retiring at the end of his term. He also wants tips on how to operate constituent offices back home in Connecticut.
Murphy on Thursday received cheers when he entered the Muddy Waters Cafe in New London, a city where he received strong support.
