HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut lawmakers are being urged to pass legislation requiring genetically engineered food to be labeled.
A collection of citizens groups, dubbed as The Right to Know GMO Connecticut Coalition, is holding a news conference on Thursday at the Legislative Office Building to discuss the proposed legislation.
State Rep. Phil Miner, a Democrat from Ivoryton, plans to introduce a bill this session requiring the labeling.
The coalition said it has collected signatures over three weeks from more than 1,000 people who support such legislation. The coalition said it plans to release a list of 50 groups that are backing the effort as well.
