Winter storm postpones Newtown panel's meeting

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's commission that's reviewing state policies following the deadly school shooting in Newtown has postponed its planned hearing on school safety.

The 16-member panel was originally scheduled to meet Friday to hear testimony from experts in infrastructure design, safety and security. The speakers were to include architects, a retired FBI agent and school safety and disaster management professionals.

The meeting was canceled due to a winter storm. It has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m.

The group, created by the governor and chaired by Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson, is charged with making recommendations on public safety in light of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, with a focus on school safety, mental health and gun violence prevention.
