HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut Congresswoman says the brother of one of the teachers slain at Sandy Hook Elementary School will attend the president's State of the Union address as her guest.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro says she will be accompanied by the brother of Victoria Soto, who died trying to shield her students from the gunman inside the school in Newtown, Conn.
Carlos Soto is a student at Stratford High School. DeLauro said Friday that having him at the address will be a reminder that victims of gun violence are not statistics.
The gunman killed six staff members and 20 first-grade students inside the school on Dec. 14 before committing suicide.
President Barack Obama is expected to try and rally support for his proposals to curb gun violence in the address Tuesday.
