Legislative leaders to begin crafting Newtown bill

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Legislative leaders will begin the process of reviewing recommendations on laws affecting gun violence, school safety and mental health care, and crafting a bill that responds to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown.

Democratic and Republican leaders were scheduled to meet on Wednesday afternoon for the first time since three subcommittees forwarded their suggestions.

The meeting comes as a new Quinnipiac University poll shows strong support for gun control measures, including universal background checks, a gun offender registry, new permit requirements, expansion of Connecticut's assault weapons ban and a ban on large capacity magazines.

While the Republican members of the gun violence subcommittee did not recommend bans on more assault weapons large-capacity magazines, Democratic Senate President Donald Williams Jr. says lawmakers should heed the poll's findings.

THE MAJORITY OF THE FIREARMS RELATED BILLS PROPOSED BY OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE AN ATTACK ON THE MAJORITY OF CITIZENS IN CONNECTICUT. THE QUINNIPIAC POLL BEING QUOTED IS OBVIOUSLY BIASED IN THE ANTI-GUN DIRECTION WHEN IT COVERS MAGAZINE CAPACITY BANS, SO CALLED(assault weapon) EXPANDED BAN WITH THE REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION OF ALL AR STYLE RIFLES AND-----MOST---SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLES OWNED BY THE CITIZENS OF CONNECTICUT. ACCORDING TO A LEGISLATIVE STUDY AROUND 2001 THROUGH 2007 WHICH PROVED STATISTICALLY THAT OVER 70% OF FIREARMS RELATED ARRESTS RESULTED IN NOLLE WITHIN THE COURT SYSTEM. THIS PROVES THAT ARREST,ENFORCEMENT, PROSECUTION, CONVICTION AND INCARCERATION WOULD BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING VIOLENT CRIMES IN OUR SOCIETY, ALONG WITH MANDATORY SENTENCES OF THE CRIMINALS!! I FEEL THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO SEE THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN SANDY HOOK SCHOOL. WE ARE BEING INUNDATED WITH BILL PROPOSALS BASED ON CONJECTURE BEFORE THE CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION AND THE FORENSIC FIREARMS EVIDENCE HAS BEEN RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC. WHERE IS THE TRUTH.
