He's fighting deportation and he's bringing his battle to Washington.

Jose Maria Islas is fighting his deportation to Mexico. He was released from detention on Friday.

He's an undocumented worker and has spent a total of 7 months in detention.

Activists have been fighting Islas deportation since July 2012, when he was mistakenly arrested for an alleged bike theft. That charge was dropped.

More than 3,000 people have contacted ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to stop his deportation, including Senator Blumenthal who held a press conference on Sunday.
