Blumenthal highlights jobs plan in CT

NORWICH, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is highlighting how the president's proposal to create partnerships between community colleges and businesses is already under way in Connecticut.

The Democratic senator visited Three Rivers Community College in Norwich on Friday. The state-run school works with Seconn Fabrication, a precision sheet metal manufacturer in Waterford, to train students to work at the company.

Blumenthal also visited a program at Windsor High School where students have internships and are able to shadow employees at Alstom Power, a renewable energy company.

During his State of the Union address this week, President Barack Obama called on community colleges and businesses to work together to help train and place 2 million skilled workers. Blumenthal also has co-sponsored legislation to improve funding for community college job training and infrastructure improvements.
