McMahon raised $324,646 in 4th quarter

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Former wrestling executive Linda McMahon says she's raised $326,646 over the past three months for her U.S. Senate campaign.

That's nearly triple what the wealthy Republican amassed when she ran in Connecticut's 2010 Senate race.

Her campaign said McMahon also loaned her campaign $770,000 in the past three months. That's on top of $10,000 she had already loaned her campaign.

McMahon spent about $50 million of her own money on her first bid for the Senate. She lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal. According to federal records, she raised $110,694 between June, 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010.

McMahon said she'd make fundraising a more integral part of this year's Senate campaign. She has been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans for her spending and was accused of trying to buy the seat.

She will never be elected to any major position in DC or CT. The key word here is "elected".

Shays sounds like he should be a Democrat - I don't see why a conservative and/or Republican would even consider voting for Shays! This year the Dems are out! Look at this article I love it! http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/gallup-state-numbers-predict-huge-obama-loss/352881 The polls show a HUGE victory for Republicans this year - it must be so as we cannot afford four more years of Obama! The CT Dems will be next - just watch!

So what does Wikipedia say about McMahon?? Wiki says "Linda Marie McMahon (née Edwards, born October 4, 1948) is an American professional wrestling magnate and politician.[5] She is notable for her career developing WWE with her husband Vince McMahon. She was active with the company from 1980 to 2009. During this time, WWE grew from a small regional business in New York to a large multinational. McMahon and her husband became wealthy through the WWE's success, and the McMahon family name is now synonymous with the wrestling industry.[6] As President and later CEO of the company, she negotiated business deals, launched wrestling merchandise, signed wrestler contracts, and managed and wrote for WWE publications.[7] ."

Another thing that may not sit well with the online gambling crowd - including the Dems - "Shays is a staunch advocate of a federal prohibition of online poker. In 2006, he cosponsored H.R. 4411, the Goodlatte-Leach Internet Gambling Prohibition Act.[22] In 2008, he opposed H.R. 5767, the Payment Systems Protection Act (a bill that sought to place a moratorium on enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act while the U.S. Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve defined "unlawful Internet gambling")," (Wikipedia)

Shay certainly sound like a Rhino based on what is on Wikipedia "Since 1990, Christopher Shays has voted with the majority Republicans 76.8% of the time, voted with the majority of Democrats 57.9% of the time, and missed 2.5% of the votes.[12] U.S. News & World Report said that analysis of Shays' voting record reveals that he is a moderate, having voted historically more often with liberals than with conservatives, although it noted he voted with Congressional Republicans 80% of the time in 2002.[13] Shays is labeled by his supporters as a "maverick"[14] and "independent thinker", while conservative detractors regard him as a RINO ("Republican In Name Only").[15] Shays is pro-choice on abortion; and has voted for the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. Shays was endorsed by the Brady Campaign for his support for gun control and was one of only six Republicans to vote against banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers and distributors in 2005.[16] He has voted against the federal marriage amendment and co-sponsored a bill to overturn the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. He is one of the few Republicans to oppose amending the Constitution to ban flag-burning. In 1999 he was one of 20 Republicans to vote against an ultimately failed bill to ban physician-assisted suicide. The Congressman has long been known for environmental regulations,[17] and was endorsed in the past by the League of Conservation Voters.[18] He also advocates humane treatment of animals[19] and ending discrimination in the workplace.[20] Shays was also one of only four Republicans to vote against all four articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton.

Even Chris Shays has a past. Some of the nicer things said. Improper disclosure of Qatar trip In 2004, Shays traveled to Qatar to attend the Qatar-American Conference on Free Markets and Democracy hosted by the Islamic Free Market Institute, a non-profit founded by Republican booster Grover Norquist. Though he initially received approval to use government funds to pay for the trip, he decided against it and instead allowed his passage to be paid for by the Islamic Institute claiming that he wanted to save the government money. He failed, however, to list the trip on his 2004 financial disclosure form. In 2006, he filed an amendment to that report when confronted by The New Republic with receipts from the Islamic Institute proving that it had paid for his air fare and lodging.[1] According the The New Republic, the government of Qatar appears to have reimbursed the Islamic Institute for their expenses in running the conference. As it is prohibited for any member of Congress to accept gifts or take trips funded by foreign governments or their agents, this would make Shays trip in violation of US law. [2] Campaign finance In 2001, Shays sponsored the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA) with Rep. Marty Meehan (D-Mass.) in the House and Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) in the Senate. Also known as the Shays-Meehan bill in the House, the BCRA banned "soft money" from being contributed to federal or state candidates and national, state, and local political parties. BCRA also prohibited non-partisan "issue ads" funded by soft money from corporations and labor unions - those referring to candidates for federal election without expressly advocating their election or defeat -- in the 60 days prior to a general election, or 30 days prior to a primary election. It also required the disclosure of sources of finance for "electioneering communications" in excess of $10,000 per year, and raised the legal limits of hard money that could be raised. The bill passed the House 240-189 and Senate 60-40, and was then signed into law by President George W. Bush. Main article: Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 Lobbying reform On May 1, 2007, Reps. Shays and Marty Meehan (D-Mass.) introduced (H.R.2093), which would "amend the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 to provide for additional reporting by lobbying firms." The bill would require organizations that spend $100,000 or more per quarter, in attempts to get the public to contact their representatives, to register and disclose their financial information to the government. Main article: Grassroots and astroturf lobbying legislation Altercation with Capitol police officer In July, 2007, Shays got into an altercation with and allegedly swore at a Capitol police officer. The police officer, citing Capitol rules, would not take a cell-phone call from Shays, who was attempting to assist an intern of his who had gotten lost while giving a tour of the Capitol. Shays apologized for the incident, saying he had behaved "in a way I know was not appropriate."[2]
